Sugar Detox - 4 Easy Steps to Take Sugar Out of Your Diet!

This article is going to be about how you can go an a sugar detox, and lessen the horrible cravings and keep them away. If you have ever tried to take sugar out of your diet, then you know all about the withdrawal's associated with it. The drastic failure rate of sugar detoxes these days is due to the sugar eating habits that people have developed over the years. So how do you get sugar out of your diet and succeed at it, here's your guide:

Step 1: Get Sugar Out Of Your Home, Car, And Work

The biggest cause of failure when people try to go on a sugar detox, is from grabbing one of their usual snacks. One big source of sugar that causes many people to fail their detox attempts, is forgetting they put sugar in their coffee. Many people get way too much sugar just from their coffee, or in some cases tea. So you need to make sure your aware of everything you put sugar into, then you need to take all of the sugar out of your home, car, and work.

Step 2: Don't Go Crazy, Use A Substitute

Eliminating all of the sugar from your diet is a sure-fire way to go crazy. You'll literally be pulling your hair out in frustration and could be having symptoms of sickness. Why will taking sugar out of your diet do all of this? Because most people are actually addicted to sugar! That's right, its an addiction just as real as drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes and you can have the same symptoms of withdrawal from taking sugar out of your diet. One way to counteract this need for sugar when detoxing, is to replace it with a healthy substitute such as fruits. Good substitutes that really seem to counteract the need to sugar are blueberries, cherries, banana's, strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, oranges, apples, raspberries, and tangerines.

Step 3: Identify The "Usual" Culprits

You have to figure out what your usual sources of sugar are, and make a commitment to yourself to eliminate those from your diet. For me it was cookies, I just love cookies. It admittedly took me a long time to get rid of cookies in my diet, and I couldn't eliminate them all at once even with the help of substitutes. I thought about how many cookies I ate each day,(I was like the cookie monster BTW) and decided to lessen that number by 1 each day if possible. The number in my case was actually around 1 pack or 20 cookies. After 20 days, I was cookie free and using the substitutes to curb the cravings.

Step 4: Take A Day Off

I'm a firm believer that everyone needs a day off. A day off from working, a day of from intense thinking, and a day off from a healthy diet. Take a day off and eat anything you want. That's right, just go crazy and eat as much as you want of anything that you want. Your diet that you follow the rest of the week, will actually make your body like healthier things more so you won't need as much unhealthy cheating food on Sunday (or whatever your cheat day is). This cheat day will give you something to look forward to and a reason to stick to your diet.

Follow these steps, and a successful sugar detox will have you on a healthier diet in no time!

Recommended Daily Menu for a Colon Cleanse Diet

Over the last decade in part of the general population there has been a growing movement (pardon the pun!) where people have embraced "natural" methods to help them prevent illness and reduce the risk of health problems occurring. One of the ways that this has been accomplished is through the adoption of a colon cleanse diet.

A colon cleansing diet does not need to be hard or torturous, although some people do go through a fasting and detoxification phase, which can sometimes be a little arduous, this is not necessary if the aim is to embrace a healthier diet from this point onwards.

It is a natural state for our colon to be clear of build up - there is no physiological reason why any of the foods we eat, once digested do not get expelled easily and naturally - However, this is not the case for large number of people.

The typical "western" diet consists of many hard to digest elements, and ones that as we evolved we are not equipped to deal with effectively over long periods.

Diets that are high in fat, contain a lot of red meat or processed meats, include a large proportion of processed foods, and contain little dietary fiber are the norm among large bodies (pardon the pun again!!) of the population.

Once a build up occurs in the colon, the body will normally be able to eliminate the waste matter, however, if this build up is allowed to progress, often due to poor diet and inactivity, it can lead to a position where the colon becomes narrower, which can cause constipation. It can also reduce the ability for the colon to absorb nutrients from the food.

This sort of environment is the ideal breeding ground for parasites, "unfriendly" bacteria and can encourage yeast overgrowth.

Continue reading to sign up for our free newsletter and you will discover natural methods and diets that can help you cleanse and detoxify

First off, you need to know what you have to avoid in your diet to improve colon health. Don't be put off by the list, it may seem that this is a list of all the foods you enjoy, but we will come to the foods that are fine to include in a candida diet soon.

Foods to restrict/ avoid include:

o Black tea and coffee

o Pasteurized milk

o Sugar laden cookies, potato chips and other junk foods

o Sodas

o Alcohol

o Foods from fast food joints

o Fatty (fried) foods

o Avoid smoking (not a food but important to restrict or eliminate)

This list can seem harsh, especially if you view coffee as the crutch that can get you through the day, and cookies and potato chips gives us great company when where watching TV. While it is recommended to avoid them, having a little bit once in a while will not adversely effect the diet if the rest of the diet is maintained. Just have enough discipline to limit yourself.

Here is an example of a healthy colon cleansing diet:

For breakfast, you can have fresh fruits and fruit juices, in fact, an apple can work better in giving a boost of energy to a person than coffee, as the inevitable "caffeine low" is avoided. You may also have prunes, low salt low fat cottage cheese, oatmeal cereal, natural sheep and goat yoghurt, and some boiled or poached eggs from time to time.

For lunch options include fresh vegetable salad with no dressing, brown rice, steamed vegetables, cottage cheese pumpernickel sandwich, vegetable soup, or sprouted beans.

For dinner, you may have more salad, grilled or steamed fish, cottage cheese or a small omelette.

For snacks, dried fruits would do fine.

So go ahead, try out a colon cleanse diet and if you are interested in knowing more then take a look at our website below.

Cookie Press Cookies - The Perennial Christmas Cookie

Cookie Press Cookies, or Spritz cookies as they are sometimes called, have been a Christmas cookie treat since the 1600's. They are called "cookie press" because a press is used to form the cookies.

The word "spritz" comes from the German word "spritzen" which means "to squirt or spray". The word describes the action of the cookie press, which "squirts" the dough through a die giving the cookie its shape.

If you've tried making spritz cookies without success in the past or if you're new to them the following information will guide you to making these delicious Christmas treats.

Cookie Press Recipes

Most bakers that have had problems with their cookie press cookies are probably not at fault at all. More than likely it's the recipe they were using.

Spritz cookie dough has to have some unique qualities. First of all the dough has to be soft enough that it will go through the press with no problems.

The fact that it has to be soft could present the second problem. It must hold it's shape in the oven or it will lose its design.

On top of these two problems is that it has to taste good!

That eliminates some of the tricks some bakers' use for shape holding like using shortening for the fat. For great cookie flavor butter should be the fat in Cookie Press Cookies!

This is a good basic recipe that will produce beautiful Christmas spritz cookies.

Basic Spritz Cookie Recipe

Ingredients

1 large egg yolk
1 tablespoon heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks), softened (about 70 degrees)
2/3 cup sugar (about 4-3/4 ounces)
1/4 teaspoon table salt
2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour (10 ounces)

Instructions

Adjust your oven rack to the middle position and heat the oven to 375 degrees.

In small bowl, beat yolk, cream, and vanilla with fork until combined; set aside.

In stand mixer cream the butter, sugar, and salt at medium-high speed until light and fluffy, 3 to 4 minutes. Scrape down the bowl with a rubber spatula.

With the mixer running at medium speed, add the yolk and cream mixture and beat until incorporated, about 30 seconds. Scrape down the bowl.

With the mixer running at low speed gradually beat in the flour a little at a time until combined.

Scrape down the bowl and give a final stir with a rubber spatula to ensure that no flour pockets remain.

Load up your cookie press and press out the cookies spacing them about 1 1/2 inches apart.

Bake one sheet at a time until the cookies are light golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes, rotating the baking sheet halfway through the baking time.

Cool the cookies on the baking sheet until just warm, 10 to 15 minutes. Remove the cookies from the sheet with a metal spatula and transfer to a wire rack and cool to room temperature.

Some words of caution!

This cookie recipe works perfectly fine. However there are some variables that can't be solved by a recipe. Those variables are in your own kitchen.

Oven thermostats are notoriously inaccurate! The temperature of your oven must be 375 degrees for the cookies to setup before the melting butter makes them spread.

If your cookies spread too much check your oven with an oven thermometer.

In addition to oven temperature the cookies will spread too much if you have whipped too much air into the dough. When you are creaming the butter and sugar be sure and not over whip.

Also combine the dry ingredients with the wet just until mixed thoroughly.

A warm cookie sheet will cause your cookies to spread excessively. Be sure your sheet is completely cooled before you do a second batch. You can pop it in the fridge for a few minutes if necessary.

Expand Your Cookie Press Cookies Repertoire

Once you have the basic procedure for spritz cookies down pat you can expand your repertoire.

The flavors and decorations possibilities for these cookies are almost unlimited. And with good recipes you can make Christmas Cookie Baking go like a flash.

Diet Plans Comparable to Medifast

I sometimes get questions from folks who want a list of diets, weight loss systems, or health food plans that are like or comparable to medifast. There are many reasons that people want to know this. Maybe they are researching their options and want to make sure that they are making the absolute best choice. Perhaps they've been able to identify what they've liked or didn't like on previous diets and are looking to make sure that the diet that they pick is going to match their personality a little better. Or, maybe they're wanting the cheapest or most cost effective diet and want to make sure that this is what they are getting. No matter why they are asking the question, I always try to give a complete answer, which I'll go over in the following article.

Low Carb Diets Like Atkins Or South Beach: People are sometimes surprised when I list these two diets as comparable to medifast but they really are. Here's why. Sure, this is a low calorie diet and I'm sure that this does help greatly with the results, but I honestly believe that it works so well because of ketosis (which is the metabolic phase which requires high amounts of protein and low amounts of carbohydrates to wake up your body's fat burning abilities. ) I attribute almost all of my success with this diet on the fact that it's a rare occasion that I am bumped out of ketosis and I can see this very clearly by using ketone strips.

So yes, this is technically a low carb diet, but it isn't typical. I had previous success on Atkins but like many people, I worried about fat and cholesterol. Plus, I enjoy protein and meats as much as the next person, but I also like snacks and sweets regularly so I don't feel as though I'm in a rut or am being deprived. And, trying to make regular foods out of proteins gets old. Who wants squash spaghetti or cream cheese based desserts any time you want to splurge?

I find medifast to be preferable to south beach and Atkins simply because I do get to have my snacks and carbs. I get to eat oatmeal and have shakes and chocolate, peanut, or caramel bars. I can also create cookies, muffins and other baked goods from the plan's foods. I like the convenience of having most of my meals prepared for me and while I do prepare one meal each day on my own, I'm eating more regular foods that don't require anything overly special and am not having to try to pass protein alternatives off for carbohydrate snacks and foods. Making each meal without any carbs gets rather old pretty quickly.

Other Prepackaged Diets Like Jenny Craig And Nutrisystem: On the other side of the coin are the meal replacement plans which are in theory similar to medifast. There are a lot of similarities between these weight loss plans. All three mostly provides you with your meals. All three have a low amount of calories and carbohydrates while maintaining a high amount of protein and fiber. And all three have you eating very regularly (from five to six times per day.)

There are some differences in the details, however. Jenny Craig is relatively more expensive (it has sign up fees) and it requires you to go to a clinic for accountability and counseling. You also must buy your meals at the clinic. Some people like this support and others find this to be a bit stifling and too much commitment for those with a busy life.

Nutrisystem, while being very similar, requires more preparation. You are asked to add in sides that you prepare yourself with each and every meal. With medifast, you only have to prepare the one meal so you're not working as hard, at least in my opinion. And you also have less vulnerable places where you can make mistakes of what you are adding in.

Medifast Costs Less Than Most Comparable Diets: Many people who want lists or articles about diets like this one ask because they are trying to save money. But they are often surprised to know that medifast is the least expensive of all these diets. With Atkins and South Beach, you're having to buy a bunch of groceries and need to prepare each and every meal. Jenny Craig charges a sign up fee and their meals run at least per day. Nutrisystem is often around - per day and requires more groceries because you have to add in foods at every meal.

At per day if you are using coupons, Medifast is the cheapest at first glance and also more cost effective when looked at closely because you are only having to shop for the groceries for one meal each day. Whether this turns out to be the right diet for you depends greatly on how much food preparation you want to do and how much accountability and support that you think you want or need.
